I joined the WebOS team the day they were acquired by LG. The mission was clear: create a TV interface that is simple, clean and centered around the most important element of a TV–content. This challenge required us to get into the mind of someone about to sit back and turn on the tube, and really understand how they’re behaving in order to create the simplest, most enjoyable TV watching experience. We decided that the best experience for a passive, laid-back state of mind is a simple, lively, and playful interface. Something that makes you smile and gets you to the content you want–fast. In thinking about the UX/UI, we also had to to accommodate LG’s remote, which is a point and click device. The end result was a colorful UI design that celebrates the main purpose of a TV watching experience: entertainment.
